Let, the lady  has rupees  be x

Spent on Hankies = x/2

Amount gave to begger = Re.1

Amount left = x -(x/2+1)=x-(x+2)/2= [ 2x -(x+2)]/2 = (x-2)/2

Spent on lunch = (x-2)/2 *1/2 =(x-2)/4

Amount spent on Tip = Rs.2

Amount remains = (x-2)/2 - [(x-2)/4 + 2} = (x-2)/2 -(x+6)/4= (2x-4 - x-6)/4 =(x-10)/4

Amount spent on book =(x-10)/4*1/2 =(x-10)/8

Amount spent on fare = Rs.3.

As per question -

(x-10)/4 - {(x-10)/8 +3}= 1

=> (x-10)/4 -(x+14)/8=1

=> (2x-20 -x-14)/8=1

=> x-34=8

=> x = 42

Therefore, She started with Rs.42/-

hope this helps u.
