and present age of ashok be x
Acc. to given condition
5 years ago
age of ashok = x - 5
age of his mother = y - 5
3(x-5) = y - 5
3x - 15 = y - 5
3x - y = 10 (i)
Acc. to second condition ...
After & years
age of ashok = x + 5
age of his mother = y + 5
2(x+5) = y +5
2x + 10 = y + 5
2x - y = 5 - 10
2x - y = - 5 (ii)

By elimination method


3x - y = 10 - (2x - y = - 5)
3x - y = 10 - 2x + y = 5
x = 15

Put value of x in eq (i)
3(15) - y = 10
45 - y = 10
45 - 10 = y
y = 35
