m = acos θ + bsin θ
n = asin θ - bcos θ
∵ m2 + n2 = a2cos2 θ + b2sin2 θ + 2absin θcos θ + a2sin2 θ + b2cos2 θ - 2absin θcos θ
= a2(sin2 θ + cos2 θ) + b2(sin2 θ + cos2 θ)
= a2 + b2
So, a2 + b2 = m2 + n2
n = asin θ - bcos θ
∵ m2 + n2 = a2cos2 θ + b2sin2 θ + 2absin θcos θ + a2sin2 θ + b2cos2 θ - 2absin θcos θ
= a2(sin2 θ + cos2 θ) + b2(sin2 θ + cos2 θ)
= a2 + b2
So, a2 + b2 = m2 + n2
