The Bastille was a fortress in Paris, known formally as the Bastille Saint-Antoine. It played an important role in the internal conflicts of France and for most of its history was used as a state prison by the kings of France.

Bastille was present in France and it was a dreadful prison. It represents the despotic power of monarch. At that time the emperor of France was Louis xvi. He was a cruel emperor and imposed many taxes to only 3rd Estate people who were poor and occupy 90% of the population. 3rd estate people were farm labour, farmers , peasants, artisans, etc.

Because of the dispotic rule of Louis xvi Bastille was stormed and the prisoners were released by 3rd estate peoples.
