We know that (a-b)^2 = a^2 + b^2 - 2ab

Given Equation is 3(x-4)^2 = 12 + 5(x - 4)

 3(x^2 +16 - 8x) = 12 + 5x - 20

3x^2 + 48 - 24x = 5x - 8

3x^2 - 24x + 56 - 5x = 0

3x^2 - 29x + 56 = 0

3x^2 - 21x - 8x + 56 = 0

3x(x - 7) - 8(x - 7) = 0

(x - 7)(3x - 8) = 0

x - 7 = 0, 3x - 8 = 0

x = 7, 8/3.
