Water keeps on circulating in nature through various states of matter; in the form of liquid, vapor and ice. Due to this, the water which disappears because of evaporation comes back in the form of rain. Thus, water becomes a renewable resource.

   (ii)

The lack of enough availability of the usable fresh water is known as the water scarcity.

• The main causes of water scarcity are :

- The extensive usage and wastage of fresh water in the past. This is greatly applicable for the groundwater resources.

- Less amount of seasonal rainfall. This causes water scarcity in the rainfall dependent areas.

- Evaporation of the available water resources due to the extreme heat of summer. This causes water scarcity in the desert areas.

- Contamination of the water by different pollutants. This turns usable water into unusable water which later creates water scarcity.

 And many more.

   (iii)

A multipurpose project is that which simultaneously serves several purposes. A dam built across a river often serves more than one purpose at a time and it is termed as a multipurpose project. It comes with some advantages at the same time some disadvantages. The advantages are flood control in flood-prone areas, irrigation facilities, hydroelectricity, check soil erosion etc. On the other hand, it has disadvantages such as, it restricts the natural flow of the river and the sediments are deposited in the river bed, it causes deforestation and disturbs the aqua life of the river.

Hope it helps you..
