GIVEN INFORMATION,

2x - y = 7 \: and \\ 4x + 3y = 9

We have to find value of x + 3y

2x - y = 7 \\  =  > y = 2x - 7 \: (equation \: 1)

4x + 3y = 9 \: (equation \: 2) \\  \\  =  > 4x + 2x - 7 = 9  \: (putting \: value \: of \: equation \: 1 \: in \: equation \: 2)\\  =  > 6x - 7 = 9 \\  =  > 6x = 16 \\  =  > x =  \frac{8}{3}

Therefore, y = 2 × 8/3 - 7

= -5/3

Now,

x + 3y =  \frac{8}{3}   + ( \frac{3}{1}  \times  \frac{ - 5}{3}) \\  =  \frac{ - 7}{3}

x + 3y =  \frac{ - 7}{3}
