Transitive verbs require an object but intransitive do not. Here are some examples-
1) The ants fought the wasps.
2) The shot sank the ship.
Here the verbs 'fought' and 'sank' have been used transitively. Now-
1) Some ants fight fiercely.
2) The ship sank rapidly.
Here the same verbs have been used intransitively as no object is mentioned.
