Our first step is to pick the longest chain. Here, every combination gives 5 carbons.

As no double bond or triple bond exists between the carbons, we name it as an alkane.

There are methyl substituents on 2 and 4 positions ( named in any way) therefore we start the naming with 2,4- dimethyl.
