please tell me the summary and poem ABOU BEN ADHEM by Leigh Hunt
Answers
This poem clearly depicts the belief one has in God. When we love God, we could love other people. By loving other people, we could make the world a better place and forget and forgive one another. The poet has tried to convey the message that, we could make the world a better place to live in and by how God would love it to be. All holy books teach us the same theme –“To love one another” .
Hunt has beautifully pictured how each one of us should think and how when we start thinking for others; we are truly blessed by God for our deeds. Loving God is not meant only by saying, but it is our deeds that ultimately God would count, and for every good deed that we do, we are being noted in God’s book and being blessed.
A poem that has conveyed a message in depth and that is what make Hunt a true critic, writer, poet and essayist, in all respects.
Answer:
Abou Ben Adhem is a pious man who gave up all the worldly comforts to serve men.
One night Abou was woken up from a "deep dream of peace". The sudden presence of moonlight had woke him up. The poet compares the moon-lit room to a "lily in bloom". He saw a angel in his room writing something in a golden book. The words "Golden book" show that the book was of much importance and so was important what the angel was writing in it. The calm and soothing countenance of the angel makes him bold to ask questions. Abou asks the angel what he is writing, the angel looks up with a sweet face and replies “The names of those who love the Lord.” Abou asks if his name is present on the list. When the angel replies "nay", he is disappointed but manages to tell the angel quite cheerfully to write his name in the list of people who love their fellow beings. The angel does so and vanishes.
The next night the angel reappeared. Abou was woken up by the glow of the angel, who had with him a list of names whom God had blessed. Abou was surprised and overjoyed to hear that he had not only made to the list, he led all the rest i.e. his name was the first.
The conclusion of the poem conveys the message that loving one‟s fellow men is the way one loves the Lord, and in turn, is blessed by God.
