What is the average velocity of a body which covers first half of journey with speed 'v' and second half also with speed 'v'? (b) A boy reached a railway station 4 km away from his house run a uniform speed in 1 hour. He took rest for 0.5 hour at the station and then came back to his house walking with a uniform speed in 1.5 hour. Determine his average speed.​

Average Velocity = 2V1V2/(V1+V2)

Here is the proof:

Let the total distance be x.

So time taken to cover first half =(x/2)/v1=x/(2v1)

Time taken to cover second half=(x/2)/v2=x/(2v2)

Now average velocity=Total Distance/Total time = x/((x/2v1)+(x/2v2)) = 2v1v2/v1+v2
