Never Say Never
"Quit, give up, you are beaten...", these words echoed in Peters mind like the recording of a poor gramophone. He was perspiring profusely and felt his world falling apart, for he had practiced for months to win the race.
Peter was one among the top school athletes who had continuously set new records and everyone expected him to pick the gold, but, alas! He had maintained lead during the initial half of the race, but later Kim and Ben overtook him and he didn't realize that within a fraction of a few seconds they could take the lead, leaving him behind.
The words still haunted him when he reached home. "Quit, give up..." Simultaneously, the words of his coach beat against the echo, "No defeat is final." He asked himself. "Should I quit?" From within, there came a voice so clear and strong. It was never so clear. The answer that came was even clearer as if he was thoroughly convinced with his inner voice.
From the very next day, he started working on his skills and keeping a track of his improvement His coach also guided him continuously, lest he would find it difficult to fight with his failure. For the first time, he had understood why it is a back-breaking act, to go against your own self. Again he assured himself that he could do it.
Six months passed since that incident of defeat and may be others' memory had faded, but for Peter, it was as fresh the morning dew. He was prepared to have another race with Jim and Mac at the Carnival at school.
This time history didn't repeat itself, rather Peter created a history as he had again beaten both of them and he won the race. He thanked God for giving him courage and patience to fight with the odds.
