From the figure observe the following things :

R₁ , R₂ and R₃ are in parallel .

R₁ = 5

R₂ = 10

R₃ = 30

Calculate the equivalent resistance

1/R = 1/5 + 1/10 + 1/30

= > 1/R = ( 6 + 3 + 1 ) / 30

= > 1/R = 10/30

= > 1/R = 1/3

= > R = 3

Given potential difference = 12 v

Total current ( I ) = V/R

= > 12 / 3

= > 4 A

Current through each resistor

V = I R

= > I = V/R

Now V remains constant for all resistances.

Now : I = 12 / R

I₁ = 12/5

= > I₁ = 2.4 A

I₂ = 12/10

= > I₂ = 1.2 A

I₃ = 12/30

= > 0.4 A

ANSWERS :

The total current is 4 A

The resistances in each resistor is 2.4 A , 1.2 A and 0.4 A

The total resistance is 3 ohms
