Answer:

a) The scene takes place in a street in the city of Venice.

The people present in the scene are Antonio, Salarino and Salanio.

b) The wind cooling the broth reminds Salarino of the stormy winds at sea and of the terrible damages that might be caused by them to the ships. This thought would make Salarino suffer from a shivering fit like that of an ague.

c) Sandy-hour glass is an apparatus that was used to indicate time before watches became common.

The sight of the sand in the glass would remind Salarino of the dangers from the hidden banks of sand at sea, on which ship may run aground.

d)Wealthy Andrew refers to a Spanish Ship called Andrea which was captured by the British sailors in1596. It ran aground when it was brought to England. Since then, Wealthy Andrew is a common name for a big and huge ship. In the extract, Salarino imagines that his rich cargo is grounded in sand.

e) When Salarino would go to church, the holy buiding made of stone would remind him of the perilous rocks of the sea and imagine that a collision of his ship with the rocks would be sufficient to break his vessel and scater on the sea all spices and silks.
