Answer:

Draw a line of any length and mark any point as 0 (zero)

At a distance of 3cm from 0 mark 1 and at 6cm mark 2

Now you have drawn a number line containing 0, 1 & 2

Now draw a vertical line 3cm long passing through 1

Join 0 with the other end point of vertical line

Now you will have a triangle of side lengths as 1 unit

By pythagoras theorem you will get the hypotenuse as

Sqrt 2

Now take a compass and place the pointer at 0 and the pencil at the other end of hypotenuse

Draw an arc with 0 as centre

The arc will intersect the number line in between 1 & 2

Thus you plotted Sqrt of 2
