While learning to ride a bicycle Sam lost his balance and fell. He got bruises on his knees and started bleeding. However, the bleeding stopped after sometime.
a. What would be the colour of the wounded area and why?
b. Which type of blood cells are responsible for clotting of blood?

a. Generally there will be a brown coloured layer formation. If additional injuries are there and blood clots occur, the colour will be bluish.

b. Mainly platelets are responsible for this kind of behaviour, this type of blood cells gets damaged by the cut edge of the skin and follow some stepwise mechanism to form a network like construction which stops blood cells to go out through the cut.

When the skin is punctured and blood starts to ooze out, the blood cells begin to form a net together forming a Bluish red covering over the wound which prevents any further blood loss and also aids in preventing the wound from being exposed to natural elements.

The blood cells that cause clotting are called platelets which along with fibrin, which is a kind of protein form a protective layer over the wound and prevent blood loss.
