The sum of the ages of Ajeet and Ajay is 40 years. After 10 years, Ajeet will be twice as old as Ajay. Find the present ages of Ajeet and Ajay.

• Let present age of Ajeet be (M) years and present age of Ajay be (N) years.

》 The sum of ages of Ajeet and Ajay is 40 years.

According to question,

=> M + N = 40

=> M = 40 - N _________ (eq 1)

》 After 10 years, Ajeet will br twice as old as Ajay.

According to question,

=> M + 10 = 2(N +10)

=> M + 10 = 2N + 20

=> M - 2N = 10

=> 40 - N - 2N = 10 [From (eq 1)]

=> - 3N = - 30

=> N = 10 (Age of Ajay)

Put value of N in (eq 1)

=> M = 40 - 10

=> M = 30 (Age of Ajeet)
