1. Soon after crowning himself as the emperor, Napoleon declared a war on Austria and defeated the Austrian forces in 1805 and Russia in the Battle of Austerlitz. He also defeated many other countries and thus, most of the Europe came under the control of France.

2. Napoleon's military campaigns were fired by one motive- to displace Britain from it's privileged position in Europe. He called Britain 'a nation of shopkeepers'. He even succeeded in his motive slightly.

3. By 1812, Napoleon had made France the power-centre of Europe.
