Number of students in the class = 42

Let number of girls = x

Number of boys = 2x/5

Now ,

x + 2x/5 = 42

=> ( 5x + 2x )/5 = 42

=> 7x/5 = 42

=> x = ( 42 × 5 )/7

=> x = 30

Therefore ,

Number of girls = x = 30

Number of boys = 2x/5 = ( 2 × 30 )/5 = 12

x+2x/5=42
5x/5+2x/5=42
5x+2x=42*5
7x=210
x=210/7
x=30

2x/5=2(30)/5
=2*6

=>no.of boys=2x/5=12
