let the daughter age be x and mother age be 8+2x as mother is 8 more than twice her daughters age.Now sum of their ages is 56.so the equation formed is

x+8+2x=56

3x+8=56

3x=56-8=48

x=48/3

x( daughter age)=16

8+2x(mother age)  =8+2*16

=8+32=40
