Consider PR as third side,

It's given that MN || PR

So, By Basic proportionality theorem or Thales theorem which says..

If a line is drawn paralel to third side of the triangle, then the line divides the other two sides in the same ratio.

So, MN divides the sides PQ & RQ in the same ratio,

i. e.,

QN / NR = QM / PM

Cross multiplying them,

We get,

PM × NQ = NR × MQ
