Answer:

1) Water has high specific heat. Specific heat is the amount of energy required to change the temperature of substance. Water has high heat so it can absorb large amount of heat energy and releases it very slowly in the evening. Organisms living in water have more stable environment. This high specific heat of water enables the moderation of climate on Earth and organisms can regulate their body temperature.

)The density of water is approx. one gram per cubic centimeter. It is dependent on its temperature but the relation is not linear. When cooled from room temperature liquid water becomes dense but at 4 degree Celsius pure water reaches its maximum density. As it is cooled it expands to become less dense. The solid ice is denser than the liquid phase so it sinks in the water.

)at 4 degree C pure water reaches its maximum density. As it is cooled it expands to become less dense. So the layer of ice floats on water as insulating layer. The warm layer settles at the bottom in winters and so aquatic life exists.

)Boiled or distilled water does not have any minerals, salts, or dissolved gases in it hence it tastes flat.

)ice has better cooling effect than water because it has higher latent heat.

)Steam will produce more severe burns than boiling water because steam has more heat energy than water due to its latent heat of vaporisation.

)Because of the high specific heat of water and the latent heat of freezing. river and lake don't freeze easily.

)Air dissolved in water contains higher percentage of oxygen because solubility of oxygen gas is more than nitrogen and other gases present in ordinary air. Since the size of oxygen molecules is such that it gets trapped in the vacant space of water molecules (formed due to hydrogen bonding)

)If distilled water is kept in a sealed bottle for a long time, it leaves etchings on the surface of the glass because substances that are insoluble in water dissolve in trace amounts even small amounts of glass dissolves in water which will make etching on the glass surface.

)The concentric rings formed in tap water because of dissolved solids such as salts, minerals, and other impurities which remain dissolved in tap water but these impurities are absent in rainwater so it does not form concentric rings.
