\large\underline{\sf{Solution-}}

Given that,

⟼ d( A, C ) = 10

⟼ d( C, B ) = 8

To find d ( A, B ), two cases arises :-

Case :- 1 When point C lies in between A and B.

So, we have

⟼ d( A, C ) = 10

⟼ d( C, B ) = 8

Now,

⟼ d ( A, B ) = d( A, C ) + d( C, B )

⟼ d ( A, B ) = 10 + 8 = 18.

Hence, d ( A, B ) = 18

Case :- 2 When point B lies in between A and C.

So, we have

⟼ d( A, C ) = 10

⟼ d( C, B ) = 8

Now,

⟼ d ( A, B ) = d( A, C ) - d( C, B )

⟼ d ( A, B ) = 10 - 8 = 2

Hence, d ( A, B ) = 2

Given that,

⟼ d( X, Y ) = 17

⟼vd( Y, Z ) = 8

To find d ( X, Z ), two cases arises.

Case :- 1. When Y lies in between X and Z.

So, we have

⟼ d( X, Y ) = 17

⟼ d( Y, Z ) = 8

Now,

⟼ d ( X, Z ) = d( X, Y ) + d( Y, Z )

⟼ d( X, Z ) = 17 + 8 = 25

Hence, d ( X, Z ) = 25

Case :- 2. When Z lies in between X and Y.

So, we have

⟼ d( X, Y ) = 17

⟼vd( Y, Z ) = 8

Now,

⟼ d ( X, Z ) = d( X, Y ) - d( Y, Z )

⟼ d( X, Z ) = 17 - 8 = 9

Hence, d ( X, Z ) = 9
