Answer:

in algebraic expressions, like terms are added or subtracted. you can easily identify like terms. terms with same variables with similar exponents are called like terms even if numerical coefficients are different.

The two expressions to be added are

(2y/3) - (5y^2/3) + (5y^3/2) and (-4/3) + (2y^2/3)- (y/2)

let us add em

(2y/3) - (5y^2/3) + (5y^3/2) + (-4/3) + (2y^2/3)- (y/2)

now we have four types of terms

term with no y at all like (-4/3)

terms with y only like (2y/3) and (y/2)

terms with y^2 like (5y^2/3) and (2y^2/3)

term with y^3, only one term i.e. (5y^3/2)

so, we will add/subtract the like terms as per their signs and leave the unlike terms at they are.

5y^3/2 + y^2 (-5/3 + 2/3) + y(2/3 - 1/2) - 4/3

5y^3/2 + y^2 (-3/3) + y(1/6) - 4/3

5y^3/2 - y^2 + y/6 - 4/3

we need not solve this any further.

now we will put the value y = 1

5/2 - 1 + 1/6 - 4/3

= (15 - 6 + 1 - 8)/6

= (16- 14)/6

= 2/6

= 1/3
