when side is a,Total surface area is 6a*a
when a=a/2,then total surface area is 6/4a*a
therefore it is reduced to one fourth of its original area.
coming to the volume initial volume is a*a*a

volume becomes a*a*a/8
Therefore volume is also reduced.
