(a)
= (30×40)-(1/2×30×10)cm^2
= 1200-150
= 1050cm^2
area of shaded region = 1050

(b)
= (40×40)-(1/2×20×40)-(1/2×20×40)
= 1600-(400+400)
= 1600-800
= 800cm^2
area of shaded region = 800

hope this helps u...

according to figure (a)

first find the area of rectangle ABCD by applying formula (L*B)
=(30*40)=1200cm^2
then find the area of the small triangle ADE by applying the formula 1/2*B*H
=1/2*30*10
=150cm^2
to find thr area of shaded figure subtract the area of rectangle ABCD - the area of trangle ADE
=1200cm^2 - 150cm^2= 1050cm^2
