Surgical birth control in males is called a vasectomy. During this process the tubes which carries sperm from the testicles, the vas deferens, is cut and sealed, this prevents sperm being able to fertilise an egg. It is a permanent solution.

In females the Fallopian tubes are tied with a ligature this prevents eggs travelling along the Fallopian tubes and becoming fertilised on the way to the uterus. Another method is a hysterectomy, this involves removing the uterus and ovaries, meaning pregnancy is impossible.
