1- the bluish colour of sky is due to scattering of light by the air particles which are very small in size in the upper layers of atmosphere. the other colours of the sky diring different times of tge day are also due to this phenomenon.
2- light from sun near the horizon passes through thicker layer of air. it covers larger distance in the earth atmosphere before reaching our eyes. near the horizon, most of the blue light and shorter wavelenghts are scattered away by the particles. therefore, the light that reaches our eyes is of longer wavelengths. this gives rise to reddish appearence of sun.

1. Sky appears blue because the particles in atmosphere are smaller than the wavelength of visible light and moreover they scatter lights with shorter wavelengths more effectively and blue has shorter wavelength than other colours in atmosphere.
2. During sunrise and sunset the distance between Sun and earth is more than any other time of the day. So the light needs to travel more distance and only the light with more wavelength are able to do so and red colour has longer wavelengths so other colours like blue and voilet get scattered in the atmosphere and only red colour reaches to the earth.
