Earth day was celebrated to save the planet earth and since 1970, it is celebrated every year on 22nd April. Although earlier, some protest was made by small group of people here and there for environmental concerns; but now more than 190 countries took part in celebration. Lots of events are organized to educate people. It is the effort of US Senator Gaylord Nelson, and for his contribution to environment he was awarded by President Medal.

Today, many individuals, groups, colleges and universities organize events on 22nd April. It is not only aimed at protecting the environment, but it will also save the resources. At the same time, a good environment will provide fewer diseases. Environment day celebration also promotes peace and unity, and we must respect the cause. We should not only participate in celebration but should also protect the environment.
