1 The loss of water in the form of water vapour from aerial parts of plants, like stomata of leaves ,is know as transpiration. Evaporation of water from the leaves to atmosphere results in a decrease in the water potential of epidermal cells. The water which is lost is replaced by the water from xylem vessels in leaves.
