Answer:
a. Because Cartilage is a flexible connective tissue that keeps joint motion fluid by coating the surfaces of the bones in our joints and by cushioning bones against impact. It is not as rigid as bone, but is stiffer and less flexible than muscle tissue.
b. Backbone is not a solid rod it is made up of small bony pieces called vertebrate. If the backbone was a single bone then we were not able to bent ourselves. ,and we would not be able to move.
c. Animals move for a variety of reason, such as to find food, a mate, a suitable microhabitat, or to escape predators. For many animals, the ability to move is essential for survival and, as a result, natural selection has shaped the locomotion methods and mechanism used by moving organisms.
d. The earthworm's skin has glands that give off mucus. This mucus helps the earthworm breathe because it keeps the body moist. Bristles, called setae, are located on each segment of the earthworm's body. They prevent the earthworm from slipping backwards.
Give Reasons for the following:
a) Cartilage is found mainly at joints.
Ans. Cartilage is a connective tissue which is highly flexible. It is present at the joints. It helps to reduce the wear and tear when the joints rub against each other. In simple words, the cartilage helps to cushion the movements at the joints.
b) Back bone is not a solid rod but formed of many ring shaped bony pieces.
Ans. Backbone is the main part of the body that helps us to bend. If it is made up of many ring like bones with joints in between so that we can properly bend our backbone without any kind of difficulties.
c) Animals move from place-to-place.
Ans. Animals are living organisms that are not rooted to a specific spot like plants. They have legs and can move all around. If they are confided to a place like plants they will suffer from certain diseases that can seriously affect their system. It is a characteristic of animals to move from one place to another. They need to find food, take shelter etc. which are life processes that cannot be eliminated.
d) An earthworm needs bristle-like setae.
Ans. Earthworms are cylindrical-type living organisms that consume soil and provide nutrient rich matter to the soil. They require setae to prevent themselves from slipping backwards.

→ Important Terms:
✳ Joint
A joint is where two bones meet. We can bend our joints only at our joints.
✳ Cartilage
Cartilage is flexible connective tissue which composes our outer ear as well as found at joints. They help in cushioning movements.
✳ Setae
Setae are bristle-like structure present in cylindrical living organisms to support their movement.
✳ Movement
Movement is a characteristic showcased by all type of living organisms. Plants sway and animals move from one place to another. Living organisms will get highly affected in an adverse manner if they do not show any kind of movement.
