Let the age of Dilip's  be x and the age of his son be y.

Two Years Ago Dilip was three times as old as his son.

x - 2 = 3(y - 2)

x - 2 = 3y - 6

x = 3y - 4 ----- (1)

Two years hence twice his age will be equal to 5 times that of his son.

2(x + 2) = 5(y + 2)

2x + 4 = 5y + 10   ------------ (2)

Substitute (1) in (2), we get

2(3y - 4) + 4 = 5y + 10

6y - 8 + 4 = 5y + 10

6y - 4 = 5y + 10

6y = 5y + 14

y = 14.

Substitute y = 14 in (1), we get

x = 3y - 4

x = 3(14) - 4

x = 42 - 4

x = 38.

Therefore the present age of Dilip = 38 years and the present age of his son = 14 years.

Hope this helps!
