See the enclosed picture for the diagram of the octagonal nut.
Volume of (cylindrical) circular hole = pi *5^2 * 2 = 50 pi cm^3
Volume of material removed from the corners = 8 cm^2 * 4 * 2cm
= 64 cm^3
Volume of the nut = (12*12 - pi 5^2 - 8*4)cm^2* 2cm
= 224 - 50 pi cm^3.
