 {q}^{2} - 10q + 21

by splitting the middle term

=(q-3) (q-7)

therefore q=3, 7

hence his friends got 3 and 7 rupees respectively

hope it helps

So, the man has to distribute this amount between his two friends, let's see how much money each of them gets!

For this, we will split this equation or simply will find its factors.

Method used: Middle term splitting

= q² - 10 q + 21

  • For this, multiply the constant term(21) with the coefficient of q²(1), that is 21 × 1 = 21
  • Now, write down factors of 21 = 3 × 7
  • Try to use these factors (3 × 7), in a way to make your result in the coefficient of x(-10), you can either subtract or multiply.
  • In this, we can clearly see that, -10 can be made through 3 & 7 as, - 3 - 7 = - 10

= q² - 3q - 7q + 21

  • Take common from first two term and then from the next two.
  • Take common from first two term and then from the next two.

= q(q - 3) -7(q - 3)

= (q - 3) ( q - 7)

Thus, the amount the two friends get is (q-3) & (q-7).

Btw, please lemme know if my answer is wrong. \;
