Here is trick to find geometry in any given question.

Explanation:

First calculate the number of electrons in the given substance lets say For a example consider NH3 (Ammonia)

so number of electrons are -

N - 5 electrons

H - 3 ( each hydrogen will have 1 e- )

so total no of e- = 8

Now divide it by 2 i.e 4

Now we can say that ammonia have 4 bond pairs since it is completely divisible so there is no lone pair.

If it is not completely divisible then divide the remainder with 2 to get the no of lone pairs

so in ammonia we get 4Bp and 0LP i.e tetrahedral geometry.
