Hello,
Let x be one number and y the other so we can write two equations:
(Hint: "is" in a word problem usually means equals =)
x+y=29
x-y=3

Now we can add these two equations to get:
2x=32
x=16
y=13

1)  Let the first number be x and second be x+3
therefore,x+x+3=29
2x+3=29
2x=29-3
2x=26
x=13
therefore, numbers are x=13 and x+3=13+3=16

2)Let, the first no. be x and second be 4x
therefore, x+4x=60
5x=60
x=12
therefore, the first no. is x=12 and second be 4x=4X12=48
