2.Solids diffuse at a very slow rate. But, if the temperature of the solid is increased, then the rate of diffusion of the solid particles into air increases. This is due to an increase in the kinetic energy of solid particles. Hence, the smell of hot sizzling food reaches us even at a distance, but to get the smell from cold food we have to go close.

3.This observation shows that there is less attractive force between the particles of matter.

4. Characteristics of particles of matter-

(i)They are very small in size.

(ii)They are continously moving.

(iii)They attract each other with a force known as force of attraction.

(iv)There is the intermolecular space present between them.

2. The smell of food reaches us by the process of diffusion of gases ( release by the food) into the air. The rate of diffusion of hot gases into air is faster than that of cold gases. So, smell of hot sizzling food reaches us quickly even when we are several meters away..

3. Water is a liquid form of matter. The observation that is diver is able to cut through water in a swimming pool show that though there is a quite strong force of attraction between the particle of a liquid ( like water) which holds them together but the force of attraction is not enough to hold the particle of liquid in fixid position.
