An act of kindness

The power of kindness is boundless. According to Aesop’s fable “The Lion and the Mouth” (c. 550 BCE), “No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted.” Even some small acts of kindness and some small insignificant words of love help to make people happy. Actually, an act of kindness means a selfless act that is performed by a person to make other people happy, without expecting anything in return. The acts of kindness may be planned in advance, but in most cases, the acts of kindness are spontaneous. This story shows how one small and loving act of kindness can have the most extraordinary power and potential. Moreover, this story proves the fact that doing acts of kindness gives a feeling of good and a sense of meaningfulness.

This happened to me several years ago. When I attended public school, I met a girl who had few friends. Her name was Elizabeth. She was really a nice girl, but suffered a mild condition of autism and was extremely shy and rarely spoke when spoken to. I had a great desire to show her kindness and offered my friendship in small ways. I had invited her to my 16 th birthday party. She seemed to have a great time there and even socialized a little, even though she seemed to feel a little bit awkward. I tried hard to make her feel a part of the activities and funny games and let her know that I was very glad she was there. To tell the truth, I had a really good day! The very feeling of kindness was so pleasant to the heart. I knew that my planned act of kindness would be positive for Elizabeth as well. Although this act of kindness was a small one, it had an enormous psychological impact on the girl who suffered a mild condition of autism. She used my friendship to develop good communication skills and become more sociable. Actually, she came to trust me with private talks, and I gave her a hug to show her I cared. She became a good friend through the kindness that I showed to her. We felt good about ourselves as we acted and behaved like real friends. We laughed at funny things, listened to jokes and played games.

Thus, it is obvious that true acts of kindness produce honest and lasting friendship relationships. As a matter of fact, human kindness exists in our everyday life. It was the act of kindness to invite Elizabeth to my birthday party and to offer friendship. Kindness stands for goodness without thought. It is necessary to teach young people to be compassionate with one another, to model kindness and learn how to commit acts of kindness every day and everywhere. If we want younger generation to be kind, we should teach kids to be caregivers and practice goal-setting and decision-making skills. Even some small acts of kindness will teach young people that they can make difference in this world. Moreover, the acts of kindness provide a magical feeling of goodness, purity, happiness and completeness. We are to live in this world so that no harm is cause by out behavior, actions, and even by our thoughts to other people.
