why does litmus paper not show change in its colour ?? explain with an activity.

take distilled water... now add salt to it(nacl) as nacl is neutral so when we will add litmus paper to it then it might not change the colour or if u take an acidic solution n try it with red litmus paper then it may remain same... n if u took basic solution n test it with blue litmus then it also may remain same..
