let A be the point 100m above the lake, AB=100m
let C be the point where the helicopter is,
CD be the height of the helicopter from the level of the point A.
DE be the height of the reflection of the cloud from the level of point a
given, ∠CAD=30°(ANGLE OF ELEVATION)
∠DAE=60°(ANGLE OF DEPRESSION)
in ΔADC, tan30°=CD/AD
1/√3=CD/AD
AD=√3×CD.....(1)
AD=√3×h
in ΔADE, tan60°=DF/AD= DE+EF/AD= 1OO+h=100/AD
√3= 200+h/ √3×h........(AD=√3×h, as proved earlier)
by cross multiplying,
3h= 200+h
3h-h=200
2h= 200
h=200/2
h=100
∴height of the helicopter above the lake= CE=CD=DE
=h+100
=100+100
=200m
