Complementary angles are the angles which add upto 90° or their sum is 90°. They need not to be adjacent angles necessarily.

Given:

  • An angle is 20° less than its complementary angle.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Let the angles be x and x + 20° because the if the angle is x, then it's complementary angle will be x + 20° ATQ.

Then,

⇛ x + x + 20° = 90°

⇛ 2x + 20° = 90°

⇛ 2x = 70°

⇛ x = 35°

The measure of the angles are:

  • x = 35°
  • x + 20° = 55°

And we are done !!

 \sf Given \: Question

An angle is 20 degree less than its complement . find the angle .

 \sf Required \: Answer

So Let , the measure of the given angle be x

now measure of its complement will be = x + 20

Now we know that the sum complement = 90°

According to situation ,

→ x + (x + 20) = 90°

→ x + x + 20 = 90

→ 2x + 20 = 90

→ 2x = 90 - 20 [ By Transposition ]

→ 2x = 70

→x = 35°

------------------------------------------------

Answer -

So , the measure of the angle will be 35 °

And , the measure of its complement is

→ x + 20°

→ 35 + 20

→ 55 °

Complementary Angles - two angles whose sum is 90 ° are called complementary angle . Two complementary angle are called complements of each other.

• Thus, Angle A and Angle B are complementary if

→ Angle A + Angle B = 90°

Supplementary Angles - two angles whose sum is 180 ° are called supplementary angles . two supplementary angles are called supplements of each other.

• Thus , Angle A and Angle B are supplementary if

Angle A + Angle B = 18
