1. add and subtract both equations.
2. you will get two new simple equation
3. solve for x and y.
or
METHOD 2:
adding two equations, we get
1000x + 1000y = 1000
dividing by 1000
x+y = 1
subtitute x = 1-y in 373x+627y = 754
we get
y=3/2
x = 1-y = -1/2

373x + 627 y = 754
627x + 373y= 246
adding equation ( l ) & ( 'll ) we get
1000 x + 1000y = 1000
x + y = 1
subtracting equation ( l ) from ( 'll ) we get
254x - 254 y = - 508
x - y = -2
adding equations ( lll ) & (lV) we get
2x = -1
x = - 1/2
putting x=-1/2 in equation ( lll) we get
- 1/2 + y = 1
y = 1 + 1/2
y = 3/2
so x = -1/2 & y = 3/2 is your required answer
