therefore angle BAP = 45°
PA = PB (tangents from same external point are equal)
therefore triangle ABP is isosceles
therefore angle ABP = 45° (base angles of isosceles triangle are equal)

angle APB = 90°
by Pythagoras theorem,
AB² = BP² + AP²
