In alpha - decay , the mass number is reduced by 4 whereas atomic number decrease by 2.

So, uranium-235 is formed.

On emission of alpha- particle , the binding energy per nucleon increases . The residual nucleus tends towards greater stability.

This spontaneous decay is possible only in the given condition:-

The total mass of the decay product should be less than the initial nucleus and this difference in mass seems to appear as the kinetic energy of the product.
