Antibiotics:

Antibiotic is a medicine that inhabits the growth of micro-organisms which destroy our bodies.

Eg: Tetracycline, penicillin etc.

Antibodies:

Antibodies are proteins produced and secreted by blood cells. They combine with foreign substances that invade the body, such as pathogens.

Eg: IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG and IgM

Carrier:

Carrier (a.k.a. vector) is any organism or anything that carries diseases from one organism to another organism.

Eg: Female anopheles mosquito, yellow fever mosquito etc.

Communicable diseases:

Communicable diseases are diseases which can be spread from one person to another.

Eg: Cold, AIDS

Fermentation:

The chemical breakdown of a substance by bacteria, yeasts, or other microorganisms, typically involving effervescence and the giving off of heat.

Micro-organism:

Any organism which is microscopic in nature (cannot be seen with a naked eye).

Eg: bacteria, fungi, protozoa etc.

Nitrogen cycle:

The series of processes by which nitrogen and its compounds are inter converted in the environment and in living organisms, including nitrogen fixation and decomposition.  

Nitrogen fixation:

Nitrogen fixation is a process by which nitrogen in the air is converted into ammonia (NH₃) or related nitrogenous compounds.

Pasteurization:

Pasteurization is a process in which certain packaged and non-packaged foods (such as milk and fruit juice) are treated with mild heat, usually less than 100 °C (212 °F), to eliminate pathogens and extend shelf life.

Pathogen:

Pathogen is a bacteria, virus, or any other microorganism that can cause a disease.

Eg: Plasmodium, HIV etc.

Preservation:

Preservation is the process of saving/preserving something for future use.

Protozoa:

Protozoa is a phylum of micro-organism.

Eg: Paramecium, amoeba

Rhizobium:

It is a bacteria which is found in the roots of plants and fix atmospheric nitrogen.

Vaccine:

A vaccine is a biological preparation that provides active acquired immunity to a particular disease.

Eg: Vaccine for Hepatitis A, vaccine for measles etc.

Virus:

Virus is a phylum of micro-organisms

Eg: HIV, Influenza A

Yeast:

Yeast are single-celled microorganisms that are classified, along with molds and mushrooms, as members of the Kingdom Fungi.
