Lets assume the number as 1.

If he was asked to divide 1 ÷ 7.
The answer is 7.

Again, as he multiply the number with 7.
Then, 1 X 7
The answer is again 7.

The actual answer is also 7.

Let's approach it step by step:
1. The student was asked to divide a number by 7 so let's say that the anonymous number is 'x' and according to the instructions, he should have done x/7.

But,

2. He multiplied 'x' with 7. so he did "7x" instead of "x/7".
Now,

3. The result he got on multiplying x with 7 was 7. So, we get an equation over here...

7x = 7

on solving it further, we obtain the answer or the initial number that was supposed to be "x"

7x=7
x=7/7
x=1

Therefore, the actual answer i.e., after dividing the number with 7 i.e. should have been 1/7.

Hope this helps!
