Retadation (a) to decrease velocity from 4 m/s to 1 m/s is given by
a = (u^2 - v^2) / (2S)
= (4^2 - 1^2) / (2 * 20)
= 15/40
= 3/8 m/s^2

Force required = ma
= 20kg × 3/8 m/s^2
= 7.5 N

(3) is the correct option.

we have,
S = 20 m
u = 4 m/s
v = 1 m/s

Using 3rd equation of motion,
2as = v^2 - u^2
40a = 1 - 16
a = -15/40
a = -3/8

we know that,
Force = mass x acceleration
= 20 x -3/8
= -15/2
magnitude of force = 15/2 = 7.5
