1)absence of flagella and centrioles
2)floridean starch as a storage product and the storage of starch in the cytoplasm
3)phycoerythrin, phycocyanin, and allophycocyanin as accessory pigments
4)unstacked thylakoids in plastids
5)no chloroplast endoplasmic reticulum

Rhodophyceae is a large group of algae commonly known as red algae due to the presence of a water soluble red pigment, r- phycoerythrin. More than 98% members are marine and the rest grow in fresh water.They do not attain the size like that of the brown algae.
Reproduction takes place by all the three means: vegetative, asexual and sexual.
Food is stored in the form of floridean starch.Motile stages are absent in red algae.
