Rhodophyceae is a large group of algae commonly known as red algae due to the presence of a water soluble red pigment, r- phycoerythrin.  More than 98% members are marine and the rest grow in fresh water. They do not attain the size like that of the brown algae.
Reproduction takes place by all the three means: vegetative, asexual and sexual.
Food is stored in the form of floridean starch.Motile stages are absent in red algae.

armaan2000: what is floridean starch.?
BrainlyKid: The major carbohydrate storage product of red algae is a type of starch molecule called ( Floridean starch) that is more highly branched than amylopectin. Floridean starch is stored as grains outside the chloroplast.
