Question :
- A force of 50 Newton acts on a body of mass 5 kg for 4 seconds then the impulse of the force and acceleration of the body are
Given:
- force= 50 N
- mass of the body= 5 kg
- time taken = 4 sec
To find :
- impulse
- acceleration
Solution :
impulse of force acting on a body is given by the formula,
here ,
- I = impulse
- f = force
- t = time
substituting the given values in the above equation we get,
______________________________________
we know that ,
here ,
- f = force
- m = mass
- a = acceleration
substituting the given values in the above equation we get,

Given ,
- Force (f) = 50 N
- Mass (m) = 5 kg
- Time (t) = 4 sec
As we know that ,
The force which acts on a body for a short time is called impulse
Mathematically ,
Thus ,
Impulse = 50 × 4
Impulse = 200 N-s
∴ The impulse of force is 200 N-s
Now , the force is defined as the product of mass and acceleration
Thus ,
50 = 5 × a
a = 50/5
a = 10 m/s²
∴The acceleration of the body is 10 m/s²
