Question :

  • A force of 50 Newton acts on a body of mass 5 kg for 4 seconds then the impulse of the force and acceleration of the body are

Given:

  • force= 50 N

  • mass of the body= 5 kg

  • time taken = 4 sec

To find :

  • impulse
  • acceleration

Solution :

impulse of force acting on a body is given by the formula,

 \star \:  \boxed {\large{\mathtt{I= f.t}}}

here ,

  • I = impulse
  • f = force
  • t = time

substituting the given values in the above equation we get,

 \rightarrow \mathtt{I = 50 \times 4}

 \rightarrow \mathtt \red{I = 200 \: Ns}

______________________________________

we know that ,

 \star \boxed{ \large \mathtt{f = ma}}

here ,

  • f = force
  • m = mass
  • a = acceleration

substituting the given values in the above equation we get,

 \rightarrow \mathtt{a =  \dfrac{f}{m} }

\rightarrow \mathtt{a =  \dfrac{50}{5} }

\rightarrow \mathtt \red{a = 10 \dfrac{m}{ {s}^{2} } }

Given ,

  • Force (f) = 50 N
  • Mass (m) = 5 kg
  • Time (t) = 4 sec

As we know that ,

The force which acts on a body for a short time is called impulse

Mathematically ,

 \boxed{ \sf{Impulse = F × t}}

Thus ,

Impulse = 50 × 4

Impulse = 200 N-s

The impulse of force is 200 N-s

Now , the force is defined as the product of mass and acceleration

 \boxed{ \sf{Force \:  (F)  = ma}}

Thus ,

50 = 5 × a

a = 50/5

a = 10 m/s²

The acceleration of the body is 10 m/s²
