if it is a zero of the polynomial then if we substitute the value of x in the given polynomial then the value must be equal to 0

(i)f(x)=3x+1,x=-1/3

=>3(-1/3)+1

=>-1+1

=>0

hence -1/3 is a zero of 3x+1(hence verified)

(ii)f(x)=x^2-1,x=1,-1

=>(1)^2-1,(-1)^2-1

=>1-1,1-1

=>0,0

hence 1,-1 is a zero of x^2-1(hence verified)

(iii)g(x)=3x^2-2,x=2/13,-2/13

=>3(2/13)^2-2,3(-2/13)^2-2

=>12/169-2,12/169-2

hence -2/13 and 2/13 are not zeros(hence verified)

(iv)2x+1,x=1/2

=>2(1/2)+1

=>1+1

=>2

hence 1/2 is not a zero(hence verified)
